Five spooky stories written by the Johnian community. These chilling tales, many set in St John’s itself, tell of mysterious noises, ancient books and ghostly goings-on.
The Beaufort Society’s Annual Meeting took place at St John’s on Saturday 12 October.
During the Telethon 2024, alumni pledged £572,937 in support of the Dobson Free Places Fund, Annual Fund, Studentship Scheme and other essential College projects.
Chris Perks (1983), now a retired GP, took part in the Himalayan Trust UK’s trek celebrating the 70th anniversary of the first ascent of Everest. Chris was met with incredible views, two fellow Johnians and a number of charitable projects.
Isobel Gardner (2023) was selected to represent College in the classic image of New Court in autumn in The Times and the Guardian this term. She told us what her experience has been like at St John’s so far.
Johnian Society members and their guests were welcomed back to College for the Johnian Society Day 2024. The day included a lecture on the English wine industry and a dinner in Hall.
Medical student Evangeline Dillon (2023) is one of the inaugural Dobson Free Places recipients. She told us why this fund was instrumental to her applying to St John’s and reaching higher education.

Johnians Katie and Graham Tatham (2006) have become leaders of a campaign to raise awareness for paediatric organ donation in the UK. Their involvement in the ‘Waiting to Live’ campaign was motivated by a difficult and heart-breaking situation with their young son, Ralph, who was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer in January 2023 when he was just three years old.
