LMBC – May Bumps 2023 Preview
As our LMBC crews are busy preparing for the upcoming May Bumps, we wanted to give you a preview of where each of our crews sit on the river.
May Bumps starts on Wednesday 14 June, and it would be fantastic to see some alumni support on the banks. There will be an informal alumni gathering on the reach on Saturday 17 June to support our racing crews. All alumni and their families are warmly invited. The alumni tent will be located in the approximate WhatThreeWords” location ‘bonds.petal.smiles’, at the far end of Ditton Meadows.

M1 start at 2nd place on the river, looking to bump the Caius Crew out of the Head of the River position, and regain the headship they last held in 2019.
W1 are currently sitting at 6th place on the river, and after strong performances in Lent term, they are looking to move up the rankings. LMBC W1 has not been in the top five crews on the river since 1998 (when W1 bladed up to third on the river), so the crew will be hoping to reset this statistic.
M2 are starting 12th in Division One – the only second crew in the top division. They are set for some great racing with the First boats around them. Additionally, M3 and M4 will be representing LMBC on the water.
W2 will be looking to bump up into the second division, currently sitting at the top of Division Three. W3 will be racing the getting on race alongside M3 and M4, aiming to qualify to race this year’s May Bumps.
Looking ahead to Henley Royal Regatta, Tom Butler (Captain 1984) and Henrietta Butler (Vice-Captain 1985) have generously resurrected the LMBC Picnic at lunchtime on Friday 30 June at the regatta. The LMBC gazebo (pictured below) will be located on the Cricket Field adjacent to the Regatta. This is a fantastic event for alumni and current crew members to connect and re-connect. LMBC members and alumni are warmly invited.

The Lady Margaret Boat Club Association
This alumni group is invested in the successes of the Lady Margaret Boat Club both off and on the Cam each year. We encourage experienced rowers to give their time to the new generation of LMBC members. The LMBCA also co-ordinate with St John’s Development Office to help support the Club’s finances.
