As the Lady Margaret Boat Club marks its 200th year, the bicentenary campaign to renovate the boathouse continues to gather momentum. With almost £450,000 raised towards the £750,000 target, the Maggie community has shown remarkable commitment to the future of rowing at St John’s and we are so grateful to the 275 Johnians and Friends of Maggie who have made a gift so far – thank you.

Nearly £450,000 has been raised towards the £750,000 target.

The proposed renovation of the boathouse will significantly enhance training provision for current and future students. Plans include increasing erg capacity by 50%, improving ventilation and lighting, and reconfiguring underused areas to support a broader range of training activities. These improvements will ensure that LMBC remains a centre of excellence for generations to come.

The bicentenary celebrations were buoyed by recent success on the river, with Maggie’s M1 crew retaining Headship at May Bumps. A row past at Henley on 2 July offered a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the legacy of the Club, and it was fantastic to see a sea of red blazers cheering them on.

We’re looking forward to welcoming many Johnians back to the LMBC Bicentenary dinner in September, during which we hope to give another update on the campaign.  Aubrey Adams (1967) has pledged a further boost to the campaign by matching donations pound for pound. Around £90,000 of this match remains, doubling the impact of each gift.
