Johnians Leading the Future of Health-Tech and Bio-Tech Innovation

Join us on Tuesday 29 September for an engaging panel of leading Johnian entrepreneurs as they share the journeys behind their ventures – from identifying unmet healthcare needs to building, scaling and commercialising innovative solutions. Hear first-hand about the challenges they’ve overcome, the pivotal decisions they’ve made and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.

The discussion will explore the latest trends, breakthrough technologies and emerging opportunities across health-tech and bio-tech, examining how innovation is transforming healthcare delivery, diagnostics, therapeutics and patient outcomes. Whether you’re an entrepreneur, investor, healthcare professional, researcher, student or simply curious about the future of healthcare, this session will offer valuable insights into the ideas and innovators shaping the next generation of health innovation.

Our speakers:

John Boghossian is a healthcare entrepreneur. He is co-founder at Pangea Bio and CEO and co-founder at Kadence Bio. He is passionate about developing novel treatments for neurological conditions.

John was previously the CEO of Quercis Pharma, a clinical-stage biotech company developing novel antithrombotic and antiviral therapies. He served as the first full-time employee and VP of Operations at COMPASS Pathways (NASDAQ: CMPS), a clinical-stage biotech company successfully developing psychedelic treatments for mental health, co-leading fundraising activities that raised USD 260 million in private rounds and an IPO.

John started his career at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). He holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School, a Master’s degree in engineering from the University of Cambridge, and Bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Economics from MIT.

Lisa Anson is Chief Executive Officer of UK based Redx, where she has led the development of the company from a research group into a clinical stage biotech, taking three programmes into the clinic and securing four major partnership deals. A key part of the transformation required securing financing with new investors and delisting the company from AIM to become private in 2024. Lisa is an elected Board Member of the UK BioIndustry Association, where for over six years she has a high profile in Industry events and policy shaping. She is currently a non-executive director of Apoplex Medical Technology, a private German company as well as Porvair Plc, a UK listed specialist filtration company.

Prior to Redx, Lisa has had significant leadership experience in global pharmaceuticals over a 20 year career at AstraZeneca plc holding as series of senior commercial leadership roles globally, based in both the US and the UK. Lisa is a past President of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), a position where she worked closely with the UK Government. Lisa started her career as a management consultant in London before moving to California with a cancer disease management company, and then joining Zeneca Pharmaceuticals (USA) as a business development manager.

Lisa holds an MBA (awarded with distinction) from INSEAD, France and a First Class honours degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University in the UK. Lisa currently lives in Cheshire, UK with her husband and three children.

Dr. Jean Abraham is Professor of Precision Breast Cancer Medicine and Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology at the University of Cambridge. She is currently interim Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre Director and co-leads the Integrated Cancer Medicine (ICM) theme in the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre, with oversight of the Cancer Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, ICM Clinical Trials and Tissue Bank Rapid Response Team. Jean is also deputy theme lead for Cancer at the Cambridge NIHR Biomedical Research Campus. She is part of the national NIHR Clinical Studies Group for Breast Cancer and part of the NCRI Working Party for Early Disease. She is Chief Investigator of PARTNER a neoadjuvant BRCA positive and triple negative early breast cancer trial investigating the benefit of adding novel targeted agents to standard chemotherapy. In addition, she is Co-Chief Investigator of the Personalised Breast Cancer Program, a real-world whole genome sequencing (DNA) and RNA sequencing project for women with all-stages of breast cancer. She graduated from the University of Liverpool Medical School and trained in Internal Medicine and Oncology at the University of Cambridge. She was awarded a National CRUK PhD Fellowship, receiving her PhD in Breast Cancer Pharmacogenetics from the University of Cambridge (2011). In 2017 she was awarded the “BioBeat Award for Top 50 Females in UK BioBusiness and Healthcare” and a Royal Society Award to enable closer links between academics/scientists and policy makers.

The goal of her research is to identify better ways to personalise breast cancer treatments, avoiding over-treatment and unnecessary toxicity and providing better clinical outcomes.

Jonathan O’Keeffe is the Founder and CEO of Machine Medicine Technologies, a venture-backed health AI company building the operating system for quantitative neurology. Under his leadership, the company has secured partnerships with leading pharmaceutical and medical device companies, deploying AI-powered digital biomarkers in clinical trials around the world. Jonathan is passionate about translating cutting-edge science into scalable products that improve patient care, and about the realities of building, funding and growing deep technology startups.
