Beaufort Society
Annual Meeting 2023

The Master of St John’s College, Heather Hancock, and President of the Beaufort Society, the Lord Browne of Madingley, are delighted to invite you to this year’s Annual Meeting on Saturday 14 October. As always, this event is designed to recognise the generosity of your support for St John’s and we look forward to thanking you in person for your enduring commitment to the College.

Programme

12pm–1pm: Drinks on arrival in the Central Hall, Old Divinity School. Welcome note from the Master, Heather Hancock (1984).

1pm–3pm: Lunch in Hall with guest speaker, Christopher Gray, Director of Music and new leader of The Choir of St John’s.

3.30pm–4.30pm: Afternoon lecture with Tom Mustill (2002) in the Old Divinity School.

How to Speak Whale: A Voyage into the Future of Animal Communication
A life threatening encounter with a whale when kayaking led to biologist, wildlife filmmaker and Johnian Tom Mustill’s thrilling scientific investigation into the pioneering world of animal communication, where remote robots and artificial intelligence are changing our relationship with marine animals forever. With sound and video recordings fresh from the sea, he’ll present new discoveries from expeditions underway now and explain what these mean for our relationship to whales and other species.

4.45pm–5.45pm: Afternoon tea in the Master’s Lodge.

6.30pm-7.30pm: Evensong in the Chapel.

Please use the form below to RSVP for the event, or contact Emma Talibudeen via email at beaufortsociety@joh.cam.ac.uk, or phone on 01223 338605.
