Johnian Society
Financial Services Networking Evening: Asset Management

The Johnian Society is delighted to invite you to its first Financial Services Networking Evening on Tuesday 15 October at 35 New Broad Street, near Liverpool Street, London. The aim of these evenings is to bring together Johnians who work across the financial services sector for an evening of insightful discussions, networking and collaboration.

The first event in this series will focus on the asset management industry, featuring a panel discussion with four Johnian speakers, each of whom have distinguished careers within that sector:

Ben Whitmore (1991)
Ben read Geography whilst at St John’s. He has worked in the fund management industry for 30 years, starting at Schroders and most recently spending the last 18 years at Jupiter Asset Management. At Jupiter he is the Manager of the flagship Jupiter Special Situations Fund, among others. Earlier this year it was announced that Ben will be leaving Jupiter to set up his own investment boutique.

Nick Hartley (1994)
Nick read History whilst at St John’s. After working at British Airways and as a management consultant at Bain & Company, his investment management career began at Goldman Sachs where he was a Managing Director in the Global Investment Research division. Subsequently he worked at Legal & General Asset Management as a Fund Manager and Head of Active Equities. Today he works for GIC, the sovereign wealth fund of Singapore, where he is a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager for Developed Market Equities.

Gemma Wright (2002)
Gemma also read Geography whilst at St John’s. She began her career as a management consultant, before becoming an investor in private equity at Duke Street Capital. Most recently she has been at CVC Capital Partners, where she is a Senior Managing Director focused on investments in the media and entertainment sectors.

Melissa Earlam (1994)
Melissa read English Literature whilst at St. John’s. She began her career at UBS where she was a research analyst and Managing Director in Equity Research. In 2014 she moved to Lansdowne Partners, where she is a partner in the Developed Markets Fund. Lansdowne Partners is an investment management firm based in London with a 25 year history of research-led investing in equities.

Left to right: Ben Whitmore, Nick Hartley, Gemma Wright and Melissa Earlam

Our panellists will share their experiences and career development to date in a fireside chat format, followed by a Q&A session. This will be a valuable opportunity to gain insights from industry experts and engage with peers afterwards over a drink and nibbles.
