On Saturday 14 October 2017, St John’s welcomed Beaufort Society members and their guests to College for its ninth annual meeting. This celebration is to thank those who have promised a gift to St John’s in their will, and the day included welcome drinks in the Old Divinity School followed by lunch in Hall.
Professor Robert Tombs (1968) gave an interesting speech over coffee, and everyone enjoyed a beautiful oboe recital from Rachel Becker (2014).
A variety of afternoon activities were held around College for members to choose from, including an illustrated talk from Professor John Rink (1985) on the music of Chopin. The Domestic Bursar, Mark Wells (1981), also gave a presentation on the College’s new masterplan, and Dr Ruth Armstrong spoke about her work building communities of learning between prisons and universities.
The day was rounded off with afternoon tea in the Master’s Lodge and Evensong in Chapel.
The College would like to thank Dr Tim Hunt (1973) for sponsoring this event for the third year running, and also those who contributed to making it such an enjoyable day.
