Peter Nienow (1984)

Pete Nienow is Professor of Glaciology at the University of Edinburgh and he was awarded the Polar Medal by Queen Elizabeth II in 2018 in recognition of his research activities in the Arctic. He read Geography at St John's.

His research investigates how glaciers and ice sheets behave in order to understand how they will contribute to sea level and impact water resources in our warming world. His research has been supported by sustained field-based investigations in Greenland, the Canadian High Arctic and European Alps.

In 2019 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
