The Annual Fund

One of the best ways to support the College is by donating to general purposes; these gifts will be directed towards the annual fund, which will enable us to use your gift for the area of greatest need at any given time.

The Annual Fund provides the opportunity for alumni and friends to make a gift that can be used immediately for the College’s most pressing concerns to support any and every aspect of St John’s. Even the smallest gift, when combined with those of other Johnians, makes an immediate and significant impact on the College’s ability to respond quickly and appropriately to financial demands, providing the stability for the College to plan for the future.

Built up over the last 500 years, our endowment owes its existence to the generosity of benefactors. Wisely invested and stewarded, this has yielded an income sufficient to support almost every aspect of College life. Despite these efforts, the escalating costs of maintaining and improving our buildings, of providing financial support to our students, and of preserving the unique teaching and supervision system place increasing pressure on our resources.  The annual fund acts as the additional bridge we need to provide a world-class education in the unique surroundings of St John’s.

We seek support for the annual fund every year, from both existing and new donors, through the Telethon and direct mailings. Participation at all levels is crucial to our fundraising, and gifts of all sizes are gratefully received. Since we started actively fundraising, over 3,800 Johnians have made a gift to the College, and last year 553 Johnians collectively contributed over £320,000 in the Telethon.
