Master's Scholarships

In recent years, one-year graduate courses both taught and research-based have become essential to the ambitions of many young people. Students often require a taught Master's degree to secure a specialised job, to work in academia, or to change direction from their undergraduate degree.

Despite this, cuts in funding have led to a significant reduction in the number of grants available for postgraduate study in the UK, causing the number of students studying for further degrees to fall quite dramatically.

We would like to establish several graduate scholarships that will enable candidates with the greatest potential, including the one student in every four who is following on from an undergraduate degree at St John's, to pursure their goals.

Our aim to to create six new full Master's scholarships: three for home students and three for international students. This will cost us £150k per annum.

We are committed to increasing our graduate intake by 2 per cent per year for the next few years; this increase is likely to be in students taking one-year courses, either as preparation for a PhD or for a professional role. The availability of external funding for these courses is scarce, and the College is seeking to establish scholarships to enable candidates with the greatest potential to come to St John's.
